**** PLEASE NO MORE DONATED ITEMS - SEE BELOW HOW YOU CAN BE OF MOST HELP ****

We have been absolutely blown away by all the people who have made contact wanting to donate and/or offer support to the Kangaroo Island bushfire affected region. We here at the Kangaroo Island Veterinary Clinic are committed to the treatment and survival of all animals; wildlife, companion animals, and livestock alike. The generosity in donating medical supplies, goods, and money to the wildlife has been in mammoth proportions, for which we thank you.

We have treated many dogs with burns, some of which remain in hospital for ongoing treatment or because their owners do not have a home to return to. Thankfully, many of their burns were not severe or extensive, and most have been able to remain with their owners after assessment and initial veterinary treatment. We hope to share some of the amazing survival stories with you soon. We are also boarding several cats from people who have lost their homes or have had to evacuate properties today.

We are witnessing the emotional and financial strain of our farmers, clients, and staff whose lives have been affected by the fire. We have estimated sheep and cattle deaths to be in excess of 80,000 at this point in time, with thousands of survivors being treated. The journey to recovery for these people and their livelihoods will take months, if not years, once this disaster has passed. Treatment and veterinary support of affected livestock, in addition to feed drops, fencing and water, are going to amount to millions of dollars. Individual insurances likely will not fully cover the ongoing support needed.

Farming and tourism are the main 2 industries on Kangaroo Island that keep our community strong. Without these industries, the Island will really struggle to bounce back from this devastating event. So, for those asking how they can support the KI Vet Clinic through this event, any monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. This will help pay for the treatment of injured pets and livestock to give back to the people who have already lost everything. It will also allow us to order the supplies that we need, rather than receiving items that are surplus to our needs. Any surplus money will be used to assist farmers in feeding their stock.

The fires on Thursday 9th January burnt just as much land as the fires the week before. Active and uncontrolled fires still remain on the Island, so this is far from over. Thanks again for all of your support and generosity; it is greatly appreciated.

I am writing on behalf of a Scout group in Uk. We are trying to find a suitable vets or organisation where we can donate some money which we raised under a day of silence. Would you like it? Would we be able to have some form of communication so the children can see the help and the devistation. ?
